I know its a bit premature since I haven't even ripped any of the Saturday jams, but man... there are already so many good ones. Just a couple that seem exceptional to me at this point are Glittering Willow and Purple Storm. Sound out ladies and gentlemen!

I previously posted a shortened list over at ChicagoNow.com/jam-room (PLUG), but here's the full list i copied into a notebook during those first magical weeks of listening to the Annual Jam 2012...
THURS: Goldfish Effect (fingers jam), Glittering Willow (harmonics and xylophone, SWEET), Spiral Nebula (Nad/Joby blue C), Fountain ("Tiny Dancer"), Binary Star + Ball (Guitar duo.. It's getting late).
SAT: Space Bloom (acoustic + kit), Proud Peacock ("Beast of Burden"), Jumbo Jet Air Patrol (just an effin cool name), Throbbing Cosmic Womb (ditto), Dancing Diamonds (keyboard, awesome), Speedboat (intense blues), Pure Awesomeness (Gogol BEAUTY), Rocketeer (yelling blues), Primary Explosive ("Play That Funky Music" jam), Butterfly (Nad/Jay C blues), Night Flower (WTF!?), Tiger Roaring (more mad blues), Cosmic Creature (folksy), Glorious Half Brick ("Not Rock" sped-up and MC 900 Foot Jesused by Nick).
I don't think it's crazy at all to pull 30 favorites from 78 songs. DAMN we were busy. And a few of my favorite tracks of any jam were from this past year (Glittering Willow, Happiness, JJAP and Pure Awesomeness, to name a few obvious ones... but favorites always change). If I had to pick a dark horse fave, some of those blues jams are pretty great and rowdy.
Wildly, a lot of the best are completely unplanned (which Joby always points out to me when i start making set-lists (lol)). Either that or we start from a very basic framework, like all those different "Fingers" jams. When we're left up to our jamming wits, and it's very late at night, is when we tend to make the magic happen. Rock on, brothers and sisters.

Lordy... In listening tonight I have discovered another (pretty much how this always works): "Party Pop Bag" is a cool, mellow Jay rhythm, with Joby on bass (!), Nad on solo and -- the best part! -- Nick singing some GREAT LYRICS!
